Plot Teaser
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, originally released on July 31. The play opens during the epilogue of Deathly Hallows with Harry Potter, Head of Magical Law Enforcement, and his wife Ginny Potter, sports editor of The Daily Prophet, sending their son Albus Severus Potter on his way for his first year of Hogwarts. There, Albus meets up with Rose Granger-Weasley, daughter of Ron and Hermione as well as Scorpius Malfoy. Albus makes a surprising friendship with Scorpius, despite their parents serving as nemesis and rivals to one another.
But the surprises don’t stop there when Albus Severus Potter breaks tradition and is sorted into House Slytherin alongside his friend, Scorpius.
Both children are then forced to contend with bullying, as Albus struggles to match up with his famous family name and Scorpius deals with unproven rumors of being the son of the vile Lord Voldemort.
The story goes on to tell an emotional tale as Harry Potter struggles to help his son with his issues, Albus grows frustrated with living in his father’s shadow, and anger and hurt that broken tempers can cause. Then, when Time Travel enters the story, events take turns that will leave you at the edge of your seats.

About the Harry Potter theatre Production
John Richard Tiffany directs Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, adding this critically acclaimed stage production to his previously famous productions of Black Watch and Once. His achievements in theater have earned him acclaim as well as 2 Tony Awards, an Olivier Award, a Drama Desk Award, and an Obie Award. Many theater critics agree that this expansion of the Potter canon, could not have possibly been as well received without his leadership at the helm.
But John Tiffany couldn’t have made this play the success it has become without the emotional beats penned by playwright Jack Thorne, or the emotive performances by a star studded cast portraying the famous Potterverse characters and their children.
Standout performances include Anthony Boyle as Scorpius Malfoy, who delivers several heartwarming scenes that are sure to hope for his safety and happiness during the entire story. The Potter family also brings some 5-star performances, especially with Jamie Parker playing an older Harry Potter and Sam Clemmett as Harry’s son, Albus Potter. The actors do a terrific job of conveying the issues that can come from being a celebrity’s child as well as the frustration of trying to find your own path in life. As the New York Times wrote, “the script has more variations on father issues than the entire canon of Greek tragedy.”
There are many reasons why, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has received critical acclaim and rave reviews? Is it because of the emotional script adapted from Rowling and Thorne? Does the fame come from the special effects and stage magic that rivals the best in show business? Or does the positive reviews from longtime and newcomer fans come from the emotional performances by proven Broadway stars?
If publications such as The Independent, the London Evening Standard, and WhatsOnStage.com have anything to say about it, then it’s all of these factors and more. This production has earned an average of 4.5 stars across several critical outlets, with many fans calling it an enjoyable story that you won’t want to miss.
